“It’s true, I downplayed it, I downplayed it, I admit it,” Ismaël Koné was forced to admit in the mixed zone a few minutes after having already described the magnificent spectacle offered by the Olympique de Marseille supporters as “incredible.” Like the 65,803 spectators present on Saturday afternoon for OM’s victory against OGC Nice (2-0), the midfielder didn’t know where to look before playing his first minutes “in the volcano”: “On the bench, I looked left, right, there was a new tifo, there was something there, then something there, they changed every fifteen minutes! At half-time, they changed too, pfff… The tifos are crazy, they make patterns and everything, honestly it’s incredible!”
So many events for so many anniversaries to celebrate on this festive Saturday in Marseille. First, the 125th anniversary of Olympique de Marseille, with the kick-off given by two of the grandchildren of the club’s founder, René Dufaure de Montmirail. And an immaculate white jersey, with the historic OM logo, worn by the players, whose number alone appeared on the tunic, to mark the occasion.
