Still struggling with financial fair play in La Liga, FC Barcelona has taken a big step forward thanks to its equipment supplier. The Catalan club has negotiated a historic contract with Nike.

FC Barcelona has not made all its problems disappear. But according to its president Joan Laporta, the vice-champion of Spain has signed a crucial deal for his future. After long negotiations during which the two parties seriously considered separating, Barça and its equipment supplier Nike renewed their partnership until 2038, with total revenue estimated at 1.7 billion euros!

« This agreement is fundamental for the viability of the clubrejoiced Joan Laporta during the Barça Assembly. It is a new mark of the strategic association and collaboration between Barça and Nike, which is a leader in the sports industry and with whom we have been linked since 1998. Now, on the sidelines of the 125th anniversary, this relationship is strengthens. I already said during the previous Assembly that we felt strong and ready to finalize the economic recovery of the club in a complete way. This agreement confirms it. (…) I thank Nike who understood the greatness of Barça in the world of sport. »

Barça's revenge

« It is certain that there was a loss of confidence. So much so that we had to establish a new brand of trust or take different paths. There were times when our positions were so far apart that we had to use a mediator, with success. (…) This agreement helps us for financial fair play in La Liga and reaffirms that Barça is back, it is everyone’s success. It demonstrates the strength of the Barça crest. We were strong against those who wanted to destabilize and discourage us », savored the Blaugrana president, not yet able to guarantee the registration of his attacking midfielder Dani Olmo for the second part of the season.
