The Professional Football League (LFP) took severe disciplinary measures against Stade Rennais this week. Following the use of pyrotechnic devices having led to a temporary interruption of the match during the match against Saint-Etienne on November 30, the low Mordelles stand at Roazhon Park was ordered closed for one match.
Pyrotechnic incidents sanctioned
The slight excesses that occurred in the Rennes supporters’ enclosure against the Greens pushed the governing body to react firmly. The use of pyrotechnic devicesprohibited in sports venues, caused a momentary interruption of the match. The LFP therefore decided to close the low Mordelles standlocation of the incidents, in order to recall the regulatory framework and, unfortunately, sanction the Rouge et Noir.
Stade Rennes – OM impacted
This sanction will have a direct impact on the attendance of next home match at Stade Rennaisagainst Olympique de Marseille next January. The low Mordelles standwith a capacity of several thousand places, will therefore be closed for the meeting under the terms of the LFP. A financial shortfall and a potentially chilled atmosphere for this Ligue 1 shock.
