Holder of a Master’s degree in international law, I realized at the end of my university career that it was important to evolve in a field that you appreciate. Overnight, I decided to put an end to my parents’ dream, who saw in me a future lawyer, to make a living from my passion: sport. Since then, I have covered transfer windows and sports news, trying to keep readers informed as best as possible.
Marquinhos has made it known that he would like to bow out at PSG. But will he get the chance? According to several sources, the question of his future should come back to the table in the coming months, as his contract ends in June 2028. Saudi Arabia could, in particular, offer him a way out.
Each match represents an opportunity for Marquinhos to write the history of the PSG. Recently, the Brazilian defender surpassed the mark of 300 matches played in Ligue 1, approaching the record held by Jean-Marc Pilorget (371). Present at Paris since 2013, the defender has acted as a benchmark, at a time when major changes are being made within the club, particularly within the group with a rejuvenation, which makes Marquinhos more leader than ever. Armband on his arm, he broadcasts his instructions, particularly to Willian Pacho, his friend in central defense.
Marquinhos wants to end his career at PSG
And this should still be the case in the coming years since his contract will end in June 2028. The central defender will then be 34 years old and it may be time to call it quits. “I’ve been here for 11 years. I hope to stay for another 10 years” replied Marquinhos during an interview at RMC. When asked, Nasser Al-Khelaïfi is not against: “ He said during the ceremony, ‘I’m going to stay 50 years!’ Marquinhos is the captain. It is very important. Not just on the pitch where he is the best defender in the world. It is important for the history of the club with these records. I believe in him.”
Its future is written in dotted lines
But as indicated by The Team, PSG is starting to prepare for his succession, which is not necessarily a good signal. The Parisian club is looking for a right central defender, with some experience, in order to support him and, ultimately, take his place. No track is at an advanced stage, even if some names are present on the short-list like Abdukodir Khusanov (RC Lens). Regardless of the transfer, Marquinhos should retain its place, but its future should be the subject of numerous discussions in the coming months. Especially if‘Saudi Arabia moves up a gear for the Brazilian.
