Vincent Hognon, born August 16, 1974 in Nancy, is a former French footballer converted into a coach. After a notable playing career as a central defender, notably at AS Nancy, AS Saint-Étienne and OGC Nice, he began a coaching career marked by several significant experiences. A confirmed French football coach
After several seasons as youth coach then as assistant to the flagship team, he was named head coach of AS Nancy-Lorraine, succeeding Pablo Correa. Despite a promising start, he was dismissed in January 2018 after a series of disappointing results. In 2018, Hognon joined FC Metz as assistant to Frédéric Antonetti. When the latter temporarily retired for family reasons, Hognon took the reins of the team. Under his leadership, Metz won the Ligue 2 championship title in 2019, ensuring promotion to Ligue 1. He left the club in October 2020 upon Antonetti’s return.
After a short experience in Luxembourg, he was appointed coach of Grenoble Foot 38 in December 2021. He managed to keep the club in Ligue 2 during the 2021-2022 season. The following season, his team made an excellent start to the championship, temporarily reaching the podium. His contract was then extended until 2025. However, in March 2024, after a series of five defeats, he was dismissed.
A new challenge for Hognon
On December 16, 2024, Vincent Hognon was appointed head coach of Valenciennes FC, succeeding previous coach Ahmed Kantari.
Throughout his coaching career, Hognon has demonstrated his ability to lead teams in varied contexts, with notable successes including promotion to Ligue 1 with FC Metz.
