Chelsea player Mykhailo Mudryk responds to accusations

Accused of using a substance deemed doping, Chelsea striker Mykhailo Mudryk responds to the accusations.

The announcement resonated like a shock on the English scene. The Ukrainian Mykhailo Mudryk reportedly tested positive during a doping test. While the news was only announced by a Ukrainian media outlet, the player confirmed the news in a press release. The English Federation then decided to suspend it following the use of a substance deemed doping.

However, Mykhailo Mudryk comes to his defense and denies having taken this substance voluntarilye.

“I can confirm that I have been informed that a sample I provided to the FA contained a prohibited substance. This came as a complete shock as I have never knowingly used any banned substances or broken any rules and I am working closely with my team to investigate how this may have happened. I know I didn't do anything wrong and I'm hopeful that I'll be back on the field soon. I can't say more now due to the confidentiality of the process, but I will do it as soon as possible.

A doubtful future for Mudryk

With these accusations, the player will no longer be able to play with Chelsea. With the investigation underway, Mudryk faces a 4-year suspension, according to Ukrainian media Tribuna.com. Doping cases are taken very seriously by federations, as evidenced by the case of Paul Pogba, who was initially suspended for the same duration.

While he was having a somewhat complicated season with the Blues, Mykhailo Mudryk's career suffers a big blow with this news. The 23-year-old striker still has a long-term contract with Chelsea, ending in 2031. The Blues also made a statement regarding the matter:

“Chelsea Football Club can confirm that The English Football Association recently contacted our player Mykhailo Mudryk regarding an abnormal result during a routine urine test. The Club and Mykhailo fully support the English Football Association (FA) testing programme, and all of our players, including Mykhailo, are tested regularly. Mykhailo categorically confirmed that he never knowingly used any banned substances. Mykhailo and the Club will now work with the relevant authorities to determine the cause of this abnormal result. The Club will make no further comments.
