AS Saint-Étienne is preparing for a crucial period with the winter transfer window which will open on January 1st. The Saint-Etienne leaders seem determined to strengthen Olivier Dall'Oglio's team for the second part of the season, by targeting several key positions. According to the information, a central defender, a right back, a midfielder and a right winger would be at the top of the list of priorities for the Greens.
The quest for a strong offensive reinforcement
Among the avenues explored, the name of Mohamed Bambathe Lorient center forward, seems to particularly appeal to Saint-Etienne decision-makers. At 24, the Ivorian striker impresses with his physical power and his sense of goal, having already scored 6 buts in Ligue 1 this season. His profile could bring a new dimension to the Greens' attack, which sometimes lacked bite in the first part of the championship. Bamba would represent a significant offensive asset for the Greens.
Strengthening defense, an absolute priority
However, the defensive sector seems to be the main concern of the Greens for this winter transfer window. With 29 goals conceded in 17 days of Ligue 1, ASSE displays one of the worst defenses in the championship. Several names would therefore circulate to solidify the rearguard, starting with that of a central defender of experience. The tracks of a right sidecapable of bringing density to the corridors, would also be actively studied by management.
A midfielder to balance the midfield
Finally, reinforcement in midfield seems to be another priority objective for the Greens. With recurring injuries and the up-and-down performance of certain elements, a new midfielder would bring physical and tactical freshness to the Saint-Etienne midfield. So far, the names of Lazaros Rota, Abdoulaye Kanté, Loreintz Rosier, Taha Ali, Timothé Nkada, Yan Dhanda and Mohamed Bamba have leaked as potential winter recruits.
