After ASSE's defeat against OM this Sunday evening (0-2), the show “L'Equipe du Soir”, on L'Equipe TV, commented on the Greens' performance. It was the essential former coach of the France team and ex-OL coach who spoke the most. Raymond Domenech has in fact paid for ASSE by repositioning OM's performance.
Raymond Domenech : “If this constitutes a demonstration, against a team of living dead, then I am willing to believe it. Saint-Étienne, who conceded five goals last week at Rennes – a team which itself has just lost against Nantes, yet in difficulty – it's not a reference. A real demonstration is when you win 4 or 5 to 0. There, you win 2-0 with a penalty, and you wonder why the other (editor's note). : Léo Petrot) will catch the player behind the back after losing the ball.
Certainly, it was effective from Marseille, well executed and clean. But if another attacker had exploited three-quarters of Balerdi's errors – his missed controls, his poor placements, and his approximations on through balls – we would be talking about it again. For me, this is not a demonstration of Marseille. A demonstration is when you are impeccable, everywhere.
Domenech: “They didn't take a suitcase today. Everything is fine, it seems”
The mastery displayed by Marseille in this match is mainly explained by the defensive weakness of Saint-Étienne. Their five-man defense was disorganized: the players were not even aligned, with a left-back constantly late, putting the opponent into play on goal and on two or three other similar occasions. The midfield was too far away to offer support, and there was no team blocking, unlike what other teams usually manage to do. In these conditions, it is easy to give the impression of a demonstration. All the other teams managed to put Marseille in difficulty. Only Saint-Étienne was unable to do so.
We can grant them the excuse of absentees. With this weakened team, as Timothée Maymon pointed out, they were almost satisfied: they conceded “only” two goals and did not take a suitcase today. All is well, it seems.”
