Olympique de Marseille continues to develop its network of young talents. According to information from the OM Espoirs account, Malian defensive midfielder Hamidou Makalou, aged 18, successfully completed his trial with the Marseille club. A key step for this young player, who stands out as one of the great hopes of Malian football.
A promising talent
Trained at the Jean-Marc Guillou Academy in Bamako, Hamidou Makalou attracted attention by breaking down defenses during the U17 World Cup last year. His impressive performance earned him the title of second best player of the tournament. His ability to play a box-to-box role, despite his height of 1m64, recalled the qualities of French international N'Golo Kanté. Agile and endowed with great endurance, he embodies the future of Malian circles, like figures like Mahamadou Diarra or Cheick Doucouré.
An imminent signing
After several days of testing with Jean-Pierre Papin's Pro 2 team, Makalou now seems ready to take a new step. Currently under contract with the Malian club Guidars, he should sign a three and a half year professional contract with OM. Although the terms of the transfer have not been confirmed, it is reported that Marseille have agreed to pay a sum close to the 3 million euros requested by Guidars.
A promising future
Initially, Makalou should evolve with the Pro 2 team, aiming to move up to National 2, while regularly integrating training with the U19s. His move to the OM first team is planned for next year, depending on his development. A promise for the future for this young midfielder, who could well mark the history of the Marseille club in the years to come.
