5th day of the Europa League:
Allianz Riviera.
Nice – Glasgow Rangers : 1-4.
Goals: Bouanani (83rd) for Nice; Cerny (35th), Mohammed Diomande (38th), Igamane (45th+3, 54th) for the Rangers.
Completely on the street defensively, OGC Nice was humiliated in front of its home crowd against Glasgow Rangers (1-4). Europa League qualification is slipping away.
After OL's great victory at Qarabag, Nice hoped to improve the evening of French clubs in the Europa League. But it didn't happen, quite the contrary, since the Aiglons completely took on water… Following a rather interesting start to the match during which the Gym could have had a penalty if the VAR had not had it canceled (9th), OGCN took a Scottish shower after the hour mark. Cerny first opened the scoring by seeing his shot blocked twice by Nice defenders (0-1 in the 35th). Then Diomandé took full advantage of an error in judgment from Rosario, taken behind his back without jumping, to deceive Bulka (0-2 in the 38th). And just before the break, Igamane recovered a much too soft pass from Abdelmonem before dribbling past Bulka and finishing in the empty goal (0-3 in the 45th + 3).
Returning from the locker room, Nice reacted with Laborde (49th) and Boudaoui (52nd), but the Aiglons were once again punished. On another dangerous loss of ball, Igamane played Rosario then adjusted Bulka with the right (0-4 in the 54th) to finish humiliating the Gym. At the end of the match, Nice saved the honor by reducing the gap with a nice goal from Bouanani from a direct free kick (1-4 in the 83rd). Not enough to avoid defeat…
Because of this new defeat, the third in five days, Franck Haise's club sinks to the bottom of the Europa League rankings in 35th place, only Dynamo kyiv having a worse record. Suffice to say that the Niçois will have to win all their last matches if they want to hope to play in the final phase of the Europa League in 2025.
