Discover our tops and our flops following Rangers' victory against Nice (1-4) this Thursday on the pitch of the Allianz Riviera on the occasion of the 5th day of the Europa League.
The tops
Igamane, in the right place at the right time
Two shots, two on target, two goals. This is Hamza Igamane's statistical line this Thursday during Rangers' victory in Nice. The Moroccan striker was able to be opportunistic enough to exploit the numerous errors of the Riviera defense to score a goal before returning to the locker room. A second came shortly after the restart, which pushed the Niçois a little further into a one-sided encounter. Once his duty was done, he gave way to Cyriel Dessers for the last 20 minutes of the match.
Bouanani, the only clearing in Nice
All it took was a touch from Badredine Bouanani to bring a little smile back to the Nice supporters who had not already left the Allianz Riviera. With his left foot, the Algerian midfielder deceived the vigilance of Jack Butland who had been called upon but remained solid on his line. In an evening that will be forgotten on the Côte d'Azur, marked by a collective failure of Franck Haise's players, this free kick will remain a timid improvement.
Sterling knew how to exceed his function
Positioned on the right side, Dujon Sterling was not content to hold on solidly in defense. The English player was able to move forward to provide solutions to his teammates. Which resulted in an assist on Mohamed Diomandé's goal. Then diligent in his interventions, he gave way to the experienced James Tavernier for the last half hour.
The flops
Rosario was not there
Like many of his teammates, Pablo Rosario missed his game. The Dutch midfielder was at fault for two of Rangers' four goals. After a disagreement with Marcin Bulka who did Mohamed Diomandé's business, he lacked aggression against Hamza Igamane on the Scottish team's fourth goal. Wanting to redeem himself at the end of the match, he did not hesitate to go up but without it changing the situation.
Moukoko with absent subscribers
For one of his rare starts this season, Youssoufa Moukoko was unable to score points with Franck Haise. The German striker went through the first 70 minutes of the match like a ghost. Weaned from balloons, he only took his chance once without finding the target. He ended up giving way to Mohamed-Ali Cho for the end of regulation time.
Louchet and Bard destabilized
The move to a four-man defense has changed habits. Tom Louchet on the right wing and Melvin Bard on the left side had a hard time adapting. The two Nice full-backs too often left space for the Rangers attackers, who were not asking for that much. Feeling that his team needed to find balance, Franck Haise started Tanguy Ndombélé in place of Melvin Bard. An attempt which proved to be in vain.
