As for every week of competition, the ASSE club's communications department offered an inside story which goes behind the scenes of the preparation for the match against Montpellier. Here is the video below.
A match mastered by ASSE
The meeting begins with a moving tribute to Rachid Mekhloufi, with a symbolic kick-off given by his daughters. From the first minutes, the actions follow one another on both sides. Montpellier and Saint-Étienne missed several clear chances in the first half, also marked by interruptions, such as a penalty canceled after intervention by the VAR.
Returning from the locker room, Saint-Étienne struck hard: Benjamin Bouchouari opened the scoring in the 46th minute with an unstoppable volley. Montpellier tries to come back to the score, but the Stéphanois hold on thanks to decisive interventions from their goalkeeper, Gauthier Larsonneur. A second penalty decision against Saint-Étienne is also canceled after video consultation.
Despite a tense end to the match and numerous Montpellier attempts, ASSE retained its advantage and won 1-0.
