The meeting between AS Saint-Étienne and Olympique de Marseille, scheduled for December 8, is already raising heated controversies. Classified as gala match by the Greens, ticket prices are reaching new heights with prices going up to 63€ for the Central Block and even three digits for the legend square. A decision denounced by many supporters on social networks, judging these “very high prices”.
A controversial pricing strategy
Faced with the expected enthusiasm for this prestigious poster, ASSE has opted for a pricing policy favoring its loyal subscribers and supporters. With purchasing priority from November 23 for subscribers, followed by Premium Members on the 27th, then supporters who attended Ligue 2 matches on the 28th. This strategy aims to reward loyalty fans from Saint-Etienne, while hoping for a sold-out crowd before opening to the general public on December 2. However, high prices raise questions about financial accessibility of this shock for all the supporters.
Security risks and rampant black market
Beyond the controversial prices, the arrival of OM also generates major security fears. With the ban on the movement of Marseille supporters, decided by the Prefecture, the club loses a key tool for managing opposing fans. To mitigate this risk, ASSE plans to bring together any isolated Marseille supporters in a dedicated space. Furthermore, the phenomenon of black market is already gaining momentum, with places resold at high prices on certain platforms. To counter this illegal practice, the club is setting up a secure exchange and delays the sending of additional tickets to subscribers.
Drastic measures against illegal resale
Anxious to stem the black market, the Greens do not hesitate to crack down on illegal resellers. At the end of last season, many subscriptions have been blocked for illicit resale of tickets. A clear warning to those tempted by this practice, which is also risky for buyers whose tickets may be invalidated in case of detection of the reseller. A delicate situation which promises tensions around this meeting at the top of Ligue 1.
