RC Lens approaches a crucial Ligue 1 match against Olympique de Marseille with a reduced squad. Several major absences come to weaken the Lensois ranks before this shock at the top of the championship. Kodir Khusanov and Jonathan Gradit are suspended, which should offer a starting place to Malang Sarr, highlighting the defensive deficiencies facing coach Will Still.
Frankowski uncertainty hovers over the right lane
Beyond the suspensions, the state of form of the right piston Przemyslaw Frankowski constitutes another concern for the Lensois staff. Having returned prematurely from the Polish selection due to adductor discomfort, the defender remains uncertain to face OM. Will Still hopes to be able to line it up but will probably have to resort to an alternative solution on this side.
The prolonged absence of Wesley Saïd
Besides defensive doubts, the Lensois offensive sector is also weakened by the absence of Wesley Saïd. Victim of a torn quadriceps in October, the attacker will not be back until “one or two weeks” according to the information provided. This unavailability deprives Lens of a significant offensive asset facing one of the leaders of the championship. RC Lens will also have to cope without its long-term injured such as Martin Satriano, Jimmy Cabot and Ruben Aguilar, the latter not expected until early January.
A major challenge despite the absences
Despite these multiple absences, Lens remains determined to meet the challenge against the ambitious Olympique de Marseille. Will Still will have to rely on the remaining resources of its workforce to try to bring down the Marseille city club in its lair. This confrontation at the top promises to be a real test for the Sang et Or, forced to overcome their shortcomings to hope to win against one of the tenors of the championship.
