New face of LOSC, which he has led since June after succeeding Paulo Fonseca, Bruno Genesio is considered one of the strong men of this first part of the season in France.
The international break this November provided a period of respite for all observers of French football, who have been at a frantic pace for many months. The latter were thus able to sit back and look back after a third of the season has already almost passed. What do they remember from these first three to four months of competition? Between the soap opera of television rights, the epics of Stade Brestois, the evolution of Parisian youth, the financial abyss of Olympique Lyonnais or even the tumultuous daily life of Olympique de Marseille, it is Bruno Genesio's LOSC which left its mark, notably that of Damien Perquis.
“His merit is there, also through the results”
“I want to emphasize (Bruno) Genesio, who managed to bring Lucas Chevalier to the France team. He recovered a Lille team with fewer players compared to what LOSC had last season. There was a lot of criticism about the departure of Paulo Fonseca, but I think what Genesio is doing is beautiful. Even when there was a slump at one point, with a few defeats in 3-4 consecutive matches, he knew how to keep his group involved and mobilized. In the Champions League, we can say that it is successful. This is the image that I want to keep from these first months of competition with a club which is also doing better financially”thus underlines the former central defender in Generation After.
Damien Perquis, now a consultant, continues with a brief digression on the shortcomings perceived in previous years: “It’s a continuation of last season, but a renewal for Lille. With Fonseca, everyone was ecstatic about him, but there was this worry when it was time to go for the big competitions. They missed them during the last deadlines (Troyes and Nice). These are the matches you had to win and didn't win. I'm happy for (Bruno) Genesio because he's often criticized, but I think he's a good coach.”he continues.
Always on the radio waves RMCthe former Stéphanois concludes, citing certain pitfalls encountered by LOSC during these first months of competition: “To give glory to (Bruno) Genesio, we must also talk about its squad which is undermined by injuries. When we lose (Nabil) Bentaleb, who is still a major player in your base system, then Tiago Santos, another major player… and we have to rely on 17-year-olds with (Ayyoub) Bouaddi in midfield. In the end, the merit is there, also through the results. The coach is often the fuse when things are not going well. There, I find that it is the perfect circuit breaker and that it works very well”he says, concluding with “an allegory of an electrician”.
