Olympique Lyonnais is in trouble. Not from a sporting point of view where it currently occupies fifth place in the championship but from an economic point of view. Provisionally relegated to Ligue 2 by the DNCG, the Rhone club will have to sell. Nothing to worry about Pierre Sage, who considers it necessary to reduce his workforce: “It was already normal considering the depth of the squad we had. We have 24 outfield players and four goalkeepers, so it was necessary to reduce the squad in any case. It doesn't really change the plan. The idea is to do it in good intelligence, while maintaining the balance of the positions we have, because we have overloaded sectors and others where we are limited. We must respond sportingly to this idea. And yes, I am consulted” he said in comments reported by RMC Sport.
Sage and Matic have confidence in the leaders!
One thing is certain, the 45-year-old technician maintains confidence in his leaders: “I have 100% confidence in the people who manage (…) The DNCG sanctions? These are more threats than sanctions. We stay on our line” he said before Nemanja Matic added another layer: “As players, we are focused on our goals and our job. We want to make our supporters happy. We only think about being together and we don't worry about the rest and what's around. We talked a little about the situation with management but our role is to play and stay focused on our work. This is the best way to do it. We get paid to play and represent our club. We have confidence in our management and we don't have to think about these issues off the field. For us the next step is the next match.”
As a reminder, John Textor explained a few days ago that he was targeting at least six sales this winter: “We have 29 players in the first team. Ideally there would be 23 or 24 players. There are six players too many. Some did not leave and we wanted to recruit to be stronger in the championship. Pierre Sage must decide which player he puts on the field. We have too many players.“
