ASSE: Abdelhamid relaunched but in the sights of the leaders?

Olivier Dall'Oglio's flagship recruit at AS Saint-Étienne during the last summer transfer window, Yunis Abdelhamid (37) has not convinced since his arrival in Forez. Nolan Roux believes in his revival.

Mickaël Nadé on the flank, it is very likely that Yunis Abdelhamid will find a starting place for the match between ASSE and HSC this Saturday at Geoffroy-Guichard (7 p.m.). The 37-year-old Moroccan international is not, however, the strongest jersey on the Saint-Etienne chain, he who had a disastrous start to the season culminating in the tragicomic 0-8 conceded in (0-8 ).

Roux disappointed by Abdelhamid

For Nolan Roux, seeing Abdelhamid in such difficulty is a real surprise. “It’s not at all what I expected,” he said on Peuple Vert. Having worked with him, even if I never played with him, I played against him I saw him much more serene, more enterprising and more of a leader. There, it’s true that I see him a little more reserved. I wouldn't say shy, but I don't see him running like before, I don't see him walking like before. I have the impression that there is a little less determination, that he asks himself a lot more questions, and that he does not play liberated. »

“He has not lost his qualities”

According to the former ASSE striker, Abdelhamid could nevertheless end up relaunching at ASSE: “I also think that ASSE did not expect such a complicated start to the season. All this means that, despite everything, he is a great player, a Ligue 1 professional. He has had to question himself several times (…) Some players, in the first part of the season, are not good, not in confidence, and in the second part, for a reason that we don't always understand, they come back full of gas, full of good intentions. This is what I wish for him, because for me, he has not lost his qualities. Maybe he's just missing a trigger, something that makes him react. I'm a positive person, so I don't tell myself that it's over. No, it's not possible for me. Maybe he will play less, but in terms of quality, I hope he will be better. »
