Olivier Dall'Oglio, coach of ASSE, returns to his former club, MHSC. Before this reunion, he answered questions from Midi Libre. Excerpts.
ASSE changes
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Coach ASSE) : “The sale was made to foreign owners, who arrived from the United States and Canada. The implementation was imposed on us. I benefited from one more year of contract in the event of promotion with the staff. We didn't look for an extension more than that. It’s a year to see, to work together. See if there is more affinity. We'll see. I think that was in their minds too, to see how the club worked. They are bringing their paws little by little.”
The Greens are getting structured
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Coach ASSE): “We also expanded with former members of the club, like llan and Romain Hamouma, or video analysts. There was this recruitment of young players. We are in modern football with a lot more data, figures, written things. We have to find the right balance in all of this. We try to unite, to work together. They bring this technology, this knowledge. President Yvan Gazidis worked at Arsenal and AC Milan, he brings that experience.
On the other hand, they discover Ligue 1, France with its codes and customs. As we can see in Toulouse, we have players coming from everywhere, we have to be able to get them to play together. This is why we are certainly in difficulty, everything has to fall into place, and it is not easy. Many of our players are discovering L1, not all of them are young. The idea, without really being expressed, is that there is a lot of “trading”. With young people who need to grow in the club. We are in this football today, less family-friendly. We have to adapt to this new mentality.
ASSE lacks framework
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Coach ASSE) : “We see it here in Saint-Etienne, we lack executives. When there isn't one, it takes a little longer to work. That's a bit of the regret I have at the MHSC, they didn't give me a lot of time, even though we weren't in danger either. When I left, we were 11th. I think today they would all be happy to be in this place.”
“You can change coaches twelve times…”
Olivier Dall'Oglio (Coach ASSE): “In Montpellier? You can change coaches twelve times… The difficulties were there. There is a transition that had to take place. Afterwards, there were some errors in recruitment. You must not make a mistake. If you take senior players, they must be present. Otherwise, it quickly becomes shaky. It's a shame. Before stabilizing, there are periods of unrest. We were still under construction, we still had to play on that. Unfortunately, there was a certain pressure that came from the outside, from the public, from the media, from social networks. It happened at the wrong time. It was not appropriate.”
