Holder of a Master's degree in international law, I realized at the end of my university career that it was important to evolve in a field that you appreciate. Overnight, I decided to put an end to my parents' dream, who saw in me a future lawyer, to make a living from my passion: sport. Since then, I have covered transfer windows and sports news, trying to keep readers informed as best as possible.
European champion in 1984, Alain Giresse preferred to end his career at OM, rather than at the Girondins de Bordeaux. The former midfielder has fond memories of his time in Marseille, despite certain difficulties, notably when he had to face his favorite team in the 1987 Coupe de France final.
To mark the club's 125th anniversary, OM went to meet its legends. The Marseille club spoke at length with Alain Giresse. After 16 years Bordeaux, the midfielder had chosen to join Marseille and end his career there. Now aged 72, Giresse took stock of his time at'About.
Giresse talks about his career at OM
« The two seasons I spent here are two very good seasons for me. For me, it's a complete change. I had only known one club and I discovered something else, something you need to know, namely the atmosphere of the Orange Vélodrome stadium. It was the start of what we call the Tapie era and I was one of the experienced players who came to supervise a team of young players. Everything went well since the first year we played for the title, we finished second and played in a Cup final. There are so many great players who have passed through OM like Marius Trésor or Jean-Pierre Papin, who I discovered here. He was at the beginning of his prodigious career” confided Giresse to the club media.
Bordeaux remained in his heart
But this journey'About also gave rise to some complicated moments. “ When you have lived with a club for so long and face it in a final, it's not the most pleasant thing to live with. And on top of that the disappointment of losing, especially this Cup 87 final, it was all very unpleasant » blurted Giresse.
