The Girondins de Bordeaux striker, Yanis Merdjiexplained that there was a lot of emotion playing at FCGB, even in National 2. With regard to the supporters in particular, but also to the home stadium, as he confided to Ouest-France.
“In terms of emotions, we don't realize the fervor that can be there at the stadium. We are in N2, but the support we have from supporters is stronger than what certain L1 or L2 clubs can receive. Playing in N2 at Matmut in front of 11,000 spectators, or in Ligue 2 in any stadium in front of 2 or 3,000 people, it's not the same atmosphere. Last year, in Concarneau, we didn't play once at home because we didn't have a stadium. So this is more than cool! What we experience on a daily basis is fabulous, and we only hope for one thing, and that is to make the club’s history and bring it back as quickly as possible.”
Then, he remembered the atmosphere when he arrived at the Girondins, when the club was in full reconstruction, even in full uncertainty.
“The first weeks, there was still a lot of doubt. There were four or five players who arrived at the same time and it united us. These bonds will certainly last throughout the season, and even into the future, because we have created a real friendship. But about the situation of the club and the administration, we had questions, and that's normal. Today, we no longer have any doubt: we must perform well on the pitch and there will be no more problems.”
