In the show The Bridge, Jules Koundé said he had been given a trial at Sochaux, but was not taken because he had slept the entire car journey. Before that, the former Girondins player explains why during this broadcast, he wore a vintage FCSM jersey.
“It’s really a coincidence that I’m wearing it, I bought it this morning in Brussels, in a Vintage store. It's the 80s and it's a memory, because it reminds me of a Bordeaux jersey, a bit in the same style, with Malardeau marked. It brought back memories for me, even if beyond that I find it pretty.”
Then he comes to this anecdote.
“Before returning to the Girondins training center, I did a test at Sochaux. He was a recruiter who had been following me for some time, and he offered to do a test. He came to pick me up at my house very early in the morning. It was still a 10-11 hour drive, including stops. I've always been a heavy sleeper, and like, I slept the whole way. I just woke up to eat. I went back to sleep until we got there. I stay a few days, I train, I play a match… I'm not exceptional, but it's okay, I'm not doing too badly. And so in the end, the test was negative, I did not sign it… I later learned from my trainer at the time, at La Brède, that this was in fact one of the reasons why I was not taken , it's because the recruiter found it super disrespectful that I slept the whole way (laughs). Maybe they thought I was slammed, but I was told the recruiter didn't like it too much. Afterwards, if he listens to us, he can deny it, but that's what I heard. But without any resentment, I wear the jersey today.”
