We have targeted the three major projects of OM coach Roberto De Zerbi for the rest of the Marseille season.
Find a defensive base
Since the start of the season, OM have conceded more than one goal per match on average. Which is too much for a team that wants to aim for the podium or even the title. Often weighed down by individual errors from his defenders, Roberto De Zerbi is always looking for his typical defense. If Quentin Merlin is the indisputable holder on the left, the central hinge is often changed by the Olympian coach, Leonardo Balerdi being far from his level of last season and Lilian Brassier having a very complicated start with OM. On the right, Amir Murillo and Pol Lirola are fighting for the starting place. But neither of them is taking the lead over the other for the moment. Difficult, therefore, to find a defensive base with all these uncertainties… One of Roberto De Zerbi's objectives in the next matches will therefore be to find it.
Remake the Vélodrome an impregnable fortress
We understood after the defeat against AJ Auxerre (1-3) that Roberto De Zerbi had mainly come to Marseille for the Vélodrome and the passion of its supporters. Problem, the Phocéens have been catastrophic at home since the start of the season (1 victory, 2 draws, 2 defeats). Mason Greenwood and his teammates, who have not won at the Vélodrome since September 14 and their victory against OGC Nice (2-0), will have to reverse the trend in front of their audience. To do this, they will have to take the strength given by their supporters and not be inhibited by the pressure of the Vélodrome.
Find a playmaker
If Amine Harit had a thunderous start to the season, the Moroccan then disappeared, most of the time going through the matches like a ghost. Which has led to a lack of connection between the Marseille defense and attack for several weeks. And it was not the serious injury to Valentin Carboni and the level of play also displayed by Ismaël Koné that fixed things. After 11 contested days, OM are still looking for their playmaker.
