After trying different sports, Thibault turned to a career as an amateur footballer. When making a choice between becoming a professional footballer and a journalist, the qualities tipped the scales to one side. In the summer of 2009, Souleymane Diawara left the Girondins de Bordeaux to join OM. A transfer which then allowed the Senegalese central defender to join Didier Deschamps' squad. A coach that Diawara had not failed to insult a few days before his signing. Indeed, the former OM player delivered a rather amusing anecdote about the current coach of the France team.
