Two days before the Nations League match between France and Israel, scheduled for Thursday at the Stade de France, the attendance is expected to be very low. As RMC Sport explains, only 20,000 spectators, or a quarter of the stadium's capacity, are expected, marking a record unpopularity for the Blues in this venue. This low mobilization can be explained by several factors, notably the tense geopolitical context in the Middle East, which led to an exceptional security system, with 4,500 law enforcement officers mobilized, including 2,500 around the stadium. The heavy atmosphere and recent incidents during the Ajax-Maccabi Tel Aviv match in Amsterdam also fuel concerns.
The ticket office struggles to attract
Despite affordable prices, with tickets starting at 23 euros in the family stand, the ticket office struggles to attract crowds. Only the “children's grandstand” and category 1 are sold out, while places remain available in almost all other categories. 20 years ago, the last confrontation between France and Israel, in 2004, attracted more than 43,000 spectators. The world vice-champions will thus have to play in largely empty stands.
