Argentine coach Jorge Sampaoli, in “advanced” discussions and who should engage with Stade Rennais, is present, this Sunday, November 10, 2024, in the stands for the Ligue 1 match against Toulouse (day 11). “There are discussions which are well advanced with Mr. Sampaoli,” explained Frederic Massara, sports director of Stade Rennais, on the DAZN channel.
A few minutes later, the Argentine coach arrived at Roazhon Park and took his place in the official stand, alongside Massara, to watch the Rouge et Noir match
According to a source close to the club, Sampaoli should come with three assistants but without the former French international Samir Nasri, whom he managed in Seville and whose name has circulated in the press. Rennes announced the sidelining of Julien Stephan and his staff on Thursday, after a long period of unsatisfactory results.
After studying several avenues with various profiles, the club management set its sights on the Argentine technician adept at an offensive possession game and high-intensity pressing, as a good disciple of Marcelo Bielsa.
A man with a strong character, the former OM coach will have to shake up a team which missed European qualification last season for the first time in seven years and which is languishing in a sad 13th place in the standings, before Sunday's meeting , which kicked off at 5 p.m.
