Mercato: Luis Campos is active for Gyökeres, but will have to fight

If he will not sign for PSG this winter, Viktor Gyökeres is well targeted by Luis Campos according to the latest reports from the French press. But the Portuguese will have to convince Luis Enrique and his management, while beating fierce competition.

With 23 goals scored, including a resounding hat-trick this week in the Champions League against Manchester City, Viktor Gyökeres is the most prolific center forward at the start of the season in Europe, ahead of Robert Lewandowski and his 19 goals with Barça and Harry Kane and his 17 goals with Bayern Munich. Last season, the 26-year-old Swedish striker had already scored 43 goals with Sporting and all the big European clubs are closely following his development.

Last summer, PSG had already checked his name, but Luis Enrique did not want to add a competitor to Gonçalo Ramos and Randal Kolo Muani, especially since Gyökeres has a release clause set at €100 million that Sporting demanded last summer to release his striker. Despite its difficulties in front of goal in the Champions League, PSG does not intend to recruit a center forward this winter according to the French press, at least Luis Enrique does not want reinforcement in this position in January when he will recover Gonçalo Ramos shortly.

Luis Campos had several meetings with Sporting for Gyökeres

In today's edition, L'Equipe, however, confirms that Luis Campos still greatly appreciates Gyökeres and has even already had several meetings with Sporting CP to discuss his case. The PSG football advisor is also in contact with the Swede's agents according to the newspaper, proof that the lead is concrete (contrary to what RMC writes for example at the same time). Le Parisien explained on Thursday that Gyökeres would not come to this winter, but did not rule out his arrival next summer.

Luis Campos' mission, however, promises to be complicated in this matter since he will have to convince not only Luis Enrique, but also his superiors, who are rather reluctant to invest a huge sum of money on a single player, with the risks that this entails. The fact that Sporting CP has promised, according to certain sources, to Gyökeres' entourage to release him next summer for a sum of between €60 and €70 million will perhaps interest the PSG staff. If Randal Kolo Muani leaves, this winter or next summer, the arrival of a center forward will be inevitable.

Gyökeres wants to decide in spring

But even if all PSG decision-makers came to agree on the need to go for Gyökeres next summer, it will also be necessary to beat the fierce competition in this matter. Both Manchester, Arsenal, Chelsea, Bayern and even Barça would also be in the mix according to several sources, and L'Equipe is not ruling out a club like Real Madrid either.

For his part, the Swedish striker has not yet made a decision regarding his future, but plans to decide next spring according to L'Equipe, which therefore confirms that he has no intention of changing direction this winter. The fact that Sporting CP is well underway in the Champions League, with a good 2nd place out of 36 after 4 days, also tends to reinforce the idea that the Swede will finish the season in Lisbon before joining a more upscale club.
