The vice had been tightening for several weeks around Julien Stéphan. The heavy defeat (0-4) of Stade Rennais in Auxerre on Sunday during the 10th day of Ligue 1 will have been the fatal turn of the screw! The Breton club, 13th in the championship, officially announced this Thursday, November 7, 2024 that it was parting ways with its coach, who returned a year ago. Since last summer, the SRFC has experienced significant turnover in terms of staff but also in terms of management with recent changes of president, sporting director and recruitment director. An audit of the club's performance cells was also underway.

Beaten five times since the start of the season, Julien Stéphan has not been able to negotiate this turn as well as possible. His second stint on the Rouge & Noir bench was significantly less successful than the first (victory in the 2019 Coupe de France). Despite a contract running until 2026 and a relationship of trust with shareholder François-Henri Pinault, the SRFC's failed start to the season weighed too heavily in the balance.
