Mercato: Jorge Sampaoli, a serious option?
According to L'Equipe, the trail leading to Jorge Sampaoli would become thicker for Stade Rennes, in search of a new coach.
It's been 72 hours since Stade Rennes was humiliated by Auxerre (0-4), and doubt has invaded the supporters of the red and black club. After a day of rest on Monday, Julien Stéphan returned to training yesterday to lead the afternoon session, while it appears highly unlikely that the coach will be on the bench against Toulouse on Sunday.
Highly improbable, but not impossible, as the decision on his future and his potential successor is so slow to come. Several avenues have been mentioned in recent days, and the one leading to Jorge Sampaoli would gain depth according to L'Equipe this Wednesday. “Serious option at this stage”, the Argentinian has been free since September 2023 and the end of his mandate at Flamengo, following his one-year adventures in Seville and Marseille.
With already 16 clubs trained since 2002, Sampaoli has only had short stories with his clubs, in numerous championships (Peru, Chile, Ecuador, Brazil, Spain, and France) and two experiences as coach with Argentina, and Chile with whom he won the 2015 Copa América.
