Funny file launched by the Spanish daily AS in recent hours, which clearly links the future of Luis Enrique to another club in the not-so-distant future. Indeed, the Asturian coach could face a future challenge… at Atlético Madrid. The Spanish newspaper recalls that Luis Enrique almost became the coach of Atlético de Madrid in 2011, when the club was looking for a successor to Gregorio Manzano. While the deal was almost sealed, the Asturian technician finally chose to join Roma. It was Manzano who led the Madrid team for a short spell before being replaced by Diego Simeone in December 2011.
A 2027 horizon for Atlético?
Despite Simeone's many successes since then, Luis Enrique's name remains linked to Atlético. During periods of turbulence for the club, such as after the World Cup in Qatar, his name came up as a potential replacement. However, management reaffirmed their confidence in Simeone, who signed a contract extension until 2027. Curiously, Luis Enrique also extended his contract with Paris Saint-Germain until 2027, after having won over the club with an approach that emphasizes the collective. Although Simeone continues to mark the history of Atlético, Luis Enrique would therefore remain a potential candidate to succeed him. To be continued.
