Angers defeated ASSE last weekend. Olivier Dall'Oglio's men conceded their 6th defeat of the season. After two consecutive losses, the Greens must react one week before the derby. ASSE faces Strasbourg this Saturday evening for the 10th day. A look back at the last reception of the Alsatians in Forez.
ASSE fights to maintain itself, Strasbourg aims for Europe
ASSE remains on two consecutive successes against Montpellier and Clermont. Pascal Dupraz has just won his first two Ligue 1 matches on the Saint-Etienne bench. The time has come to confirm the squad's renewed form. Saint-Étienne has left the red zone but remains a barrier and now wants to move away from the relegation zone.
For their part, the people of Strasbourg are aiming for Europe. Julien Stéphan's men occupy 4th place, one point from the podium, with 41 points after 24 days. European ambitions are permitted for Strasbourg.
A start full of goals
From the first moments, Sels intervenes with his hand on a poorly assured back pass. The Strasbourg goalkeeper commits a foul and concedes an indirect free kick in his area. Well served by Bouanga, Ryad Boudebouz sends the ball into the back of the net despite the presence of many RCSA players.
Strasbourg reacted 15 minutes later. On a poorly controlled exit from Bernardoni, Diallo scores with a header into the empty goal. At the half-hour mark, a new goal from a set piece occurred. Lonely, Lucas Perrin resumes with an unacademic acrobatic gesture which deceives Bernardoni. The visitors take the advantage, but four minutes later, Denis Bouanga gets rid of Djiku and sends a low cross which Wahbi Khazri only has to send to the bottom. The score is 2-2 after 34 minutes, and the match is very lively.
A much calmer second half
With four goals in the first period, the two teams returned to the locker room tied. There are still 45 minutes left to try to secure victory. The second half will be calmer. Pascal Dupraz's men will have the best chances, with Zaydou Youssouf as the most prominent player. Launched by Thioub, he tries to find the top corner, but Sels diverts the ball. The former Bordeaux player will then receive a cross from Khazri, but without success. At the end of the match, the former Bastiais player will come out injured. The score will no longer change.
ASSE sees its maintenance mission slowed down, while Strasbourg is slowed down in its race for Europe. At the end of the season, the respective objectives of the two clubs will not be achieved. Strasbourg will finish at the gates of Europe, while the Greens will be beaten by Auxerre in the play-off and go down to Ligue 2.
