Football news is increasingly littered with news stories, sometimes even if it means turning into the sordid. Latest case to date, Kylian Mbappécited in a rape case following his stay in Stockholm which had already sparked controversy while the French team was playing and he was exempt from gathering to perk up physically.
The question of the image sent by the players once they are no longer on the pitch was raised this week with Will Still at a press conference. He comments:
« There are no particular instructions, and I am not going to talk about the case you want me to talk about, but here at the Racing Club de Lens, there is an identity that is very strong, and there is a big responsibility which is given to the players, because they represent the club, they represent the values of a city and of many supporters. So they are necessarily required, when they are outside the club, to be exemplary, to behave in a way that is perfect, but I have no reason to complain at that level. I think all the players we have here are intelligent, know what they are doing, whether they are on the pitch, in the dressing room, in the stadium, outside the club, when they have a day off …so far they are impeccable. They know very well that we have a duty as professional players or members of professional staff to be exemplary, but it is more part of the DNA of the club and what we want to represent as a club. But at this level, there is not much to worry about. »
