The 22-year-old Portuguese midfielder suffered a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training. The prolonged absence of Tiago Santos poses a considerable challenge to coach Bruno Genesio, already affected by several injuries in midfield. However, the return of players like Ngal’ayel Mukau offers some respite. Genesio has proven his ability to adapt by changing player associations and integrating recruits such as André Gomes. Concerning the right flank, the club seems well positioned with Thomas Meunierwho should take over from Santos.
Who to replace Santos? Miller?
Meunier, having decided not to join the Red Devils to concentrate on LOSC, started four times in seven league matches. His versatility and experience in different gaming systems give him an undeniable advantage. The loss of Tiago Santos is all the more significant as he played a key role in the offensive animation, notably alongside Edon Zhegrova. The latter, although capable of impressive performances, has not always managed to establish a solid connection with Santos this season, despite some promising outings, such as the one against Real Madrid.
Another option, Genesio could also consider Aïssa Mandi as an alternative. The Algerian, recently used as a right back during his national selections, could be called upon in this role in Lille.
