Greek international found dead in his swimming pool with a bottle of vodka next to him

Greek international George Baldock, who plays for Panathinaikos, was found dead this Wednesday in the swimming pool at his home, located in the suburbs of Athens. He was 31 years old.

The circumstances of his death remain to be clarified. The lifeless body of George Baldock (31) was found this Wednesday in the swimming pool of his house located in Glyfada in the southern suburbs of Athens.

While the Greek international, who also has British nationality, joined Panathinaikos last summer from Sheffield, it was his wife, who remained living in England with their son, who raised the alarm.

Worried about not having any news, she notified a friend of the player living in Greece. And the defender was found drowned, with a bottle of vodka nearby. An investigation was opened by the Greek authorities to determine the circumstances of his death, which caused a wave of emotion in Greece as in England.

When his death was announced, many tributes poured in to pay tribute to his memory. “Sheffield United Football Club is shocked and extremely saddened to learn of the death of former player, George Baldock. The defender left the club this summer after seven years at Bramall Lane and was hugely popular with supporters, staff and teammates who pulled on a red and white jersey alongside him. The sincere condolences of everyone associated with Sheffield United are extended to George’s family and friends,” Sheffield United club posted on its X account (formerly Twitter).

“We are extremely saddened by the passing of George Baldock. He was close to many of our players and represented Greece, our opponent on Thursday night. We are thinking of George’s family, his friends and his club and national team teammates during this difficult time,” the England team wrote. And emotions should be high when kick-off at Wembley.
