Yesterday, the presidents of the National 1 clubs published a press release stating the desire to set up a professional Ligue 3 quickly. The idea is to harmonize this championship made up of professional and amateur clubs which do not have the same rules in terms of player remuneration.

“We are playing unequal football”

Thierry Gomez on Footamateur: “If we do nothing for Ligue 3, I will be very worried about French football as a whole. Today, we are in unequal football. An ambitious club that cannot be European is in danger. A club that goes down to Ligue 2 is in danger. A Ligue 2 club that goes down to Ligue 3 today is dead if it doesn’t come back up very quickly, we see it every summer with the DNCG (…) It’s the crossroads towards high-level football and these are its foundations. Making the foundations strong will make top football stronger.”

“Either we launch professional Ligue 3 immediately next season, or we give ourselves one more season”

“The idea is already to launch the Commission. The first step is to ask ourselves if we wouldn’t already be called Ligue 3 from next season, to send a strong message. Either we launch the Professional Ligue 3 next season, or we give ourselves one more season, but the objective is that in December 2025, at the General Meeting of the Federation, the professional Ligue 3 project will be validated.
