Rennes in crisis: the president leaves, Stéphan in the hot seat
Julien Stéphan in doubt, Olivier Cloarec sacked

Sporting disappointment and imminent administrative reshuffle at Stade Rennais

The Stade Rennaistenth in the Ligue 1 standings after six days, is going through a delicate period. Despite an ambitious summer transfer window and significant investments, the Breton club is struggling to confirm its ambitions on the pitch. While the sporting results disappoint, major changes are also looming behind the scenes, with the imminent departure of its executive president.

Julien Stéphan: A mixed return

Julien Stéphan, recalled to redress the situation, has not yet regained the success of his first stint at the club, where he notably led to victory in the Coupe de in 2019. Today, the Breton technician is struggling to breathe new life into a new dynamic to his group. If there is no shortage of individual talent, the collective play of Stade Rennais remains laborious, marked by defensive shortcomings and a lack of offensive creativity.

A behind-the-scenes shakeup: The departure of Olivier Cloarec

Alongside the sporting difficulties, an administrative reshuffle is about to shake up the club. According to West Francethe executive president Olivier Cloarec would be leaving. In office since 2022, Cloarec had previously served as deputy general manager in 2021. His dismissal comes in a context of crisis and growing discontent, both among supporters and shareholders.

It is Arnaud Pouilleformer director general of RC who should take over. An appointment which could bring a breath of fresh air, but which will probably not be enough to ease the tensions which reign within the club.

The next meeting of Stade Rennais, againstAS Monacoconstitutes a decisive stage in the season. Monaco, in excellent form since the start of the championship, represents a formidable opponent. A new poor performance could seal the fate of Julien Stéphan, or even provoke other reshuffles within the club.
