Liverpool working to complete Federico Chiesa transfer from Juventus

Liverpool are working to complete the signing of Federico Chiesa before the transfer market shuts.

News emerged on Monday that the Anfield club were exploring a deal for the Juventus forward, 26 — and they are now ready to proceed on the basis of what it will take to secure his services.

The Italy international is available for around €15million, given his terms expire in 2025.

Having admired Chiesa for a number of years, Liverpool decided to capitalise on the situation and are discussing a possible four-year contract.

Chiesa, along with other former first-team players, have been excluded from Thiago Motta’s squad.

He joined Juventus from Fiorentina initially on loan in 2020, a deal which became permanent for €50m (now £42.3m; $55.8m).

Federico Chiesa is stuck in a rut

Chiesa was a regular for Juventus under previous head coach Massimiliano Allegri last season, registering 10 goals and three assists in 37 appearances across all competitions. The 2023-24 campaign was Chiesa’s first full season since he sustained an anterior cruciate ligament injury in January 2022, which ruled him out for around nine months.

He previously starred for Italy during their title-winning European Championship campaign in 2021 and also represented his country at the edition earlier this summer as they were knocked out in the last 16.

Since moving to Turin, Chiesa has scored 32 goals in 131 matches for Juventus. Previously, he scored 34 times in 154 games for Fiorentina.

Liverpool have won both of their opening Premier League fixtures under new head coach Arne Slot, securing 2-0 wins over Ipswich Town and Brentford.

Slot’s side travel to Manchester United on Sunday for their next game.
