Apple iPhone 16, iPhone 16 Pro models: Specifications, features, and more

The iPhone 16 and 16 Plus maintain their predecessor’s design with 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch displays respectively, but now boast improved brightness capabilities, reaching 2000 nits peak and dimming to 1 nit. These models introduce a vertical camera arrangement, housing a 48MP main sensor and a new 12MP ultrawide lens with autofocus, enabling macro photography.
On the Pro front, the iPhone 16 Pro steps up to a 6.3-inch screen, while the Pro Max stretches to 6.9 inches. Both Pro models retain their titanium construction and are available in four finishes, including a new “dessert titanium” option.
A standout feature across all models is the new Camera Control button, replacing the traditional Ring/Silent switch. This multifunctional button offers quick camera access, tactile feedback, and supports various shooting modes. The Pro models are slated to receive a two-stage shutter functionality via a future software update.
Under the hood, the iPhone 16 and 16 Plus are powered by the A18 chip, delivering a 30% performance boost over the A16. This chip enables Apple Intelligence features like Writing Tools and Clean Up, previously exclusive to Pro models.
The Pro variants sport the more robust A18 Pro chip, featuring a 16-core Neural Engine that’s 15% faster than its predecessor. This powerhouse supports advanced gaming capabilities, including hardware-level ray tracing.
Camera capabilities see a significant leap in the Pro models. They feature a 48MP “fusion camera,” a new 48MP ultrawide, and a 5x telephoto lens on both variants. These improvements enable 4K video recording at 120fps and introduce new photo styles that can be applied post-capture.
Apple claims “big boosts to battery life” across the board, though specific figures weren’t provided. The Pro models now support Qi2 wireless charging.
