Long troubled by repeated injuries, ASM center Pierre Fouyssac finally finds his place among the Jaunards…
Is Pierre Fouyssac really starting his time at Clermont? Arriving in Auvergne in the summer of 2023, the former Toulouse player was cursed with injuries of all kinds during his first season in yellow and blue. From the neck to the arch of the foot, Pierre Fouyssac's body has suffered too many scars to win a highly competitive position at the ASM. Back on his feet in October, the ex-Agenais gradually found his place at the center of the Clermont attack. Performing well against Bordeaux-Bègles, with a performance rewarded with a powerful try, Fouyssac did it again in Lyon, with a more defensive copy but no less effective. “I have experienced several physical problems but that is the lot of all players. The coach fields the best team, it is up to me to make the necessary efforts to be a starter. Physically, I am good, I manage to string together matches , confidence comes back and it's a virtuous circle. It's always easier than playing once every six games.” tells the Clermont center.
An even different profile in the center
Because beyond his physical state, Pierre Fouyssac is aware of the multitude of talents that fill numbers 12 and 13 of the ASM. George Moala has found the sacred fire again, Léon Darricarrère has returned from Marcoussis and Irae Simone is not very far from a recovery. Not to mention Lucas Tauzin, author of a good start to the season, but who moved to the wing in the absence of Bautista Delguy and Alivereti Raka. Rough and stubborn, the former Toulousain likes to rub shoulders with the big guys from Clermont. “I love playing in disorder but above all helping the forwards in the fight and in our attacking game. In addition, Lucas (Tauzin) joined us and our complicity in Toulouse means that we find each other easily and that the connections are simpler between us!”, appreciates the former stadium manager. “We know the quality of Pierre, he is coming back from a long injury but he has made the effort to come back well. He is very powerful and can play in both center positions, with the bit of creativity he has. He brings a different register to George (Moala) or Léon (Darricarrère)”supports Frédéric Charrier. While the Clermont staff have tested many associations in the center, the return to grace of Pierre Fouyssac could once again reshuffle the cards in midfield. A comfortable situation which should also allow the Auvergnats to rediscover an attractive attack, a month after their fireworks against Bordeaux-Bègles…
