“Canteens” specially designed for city center workers. But not only that, Café Noisette and Penida also aim to be coffee shops and brunch specialists. Two similar offers which reinforce the “culinary hub” that Place Vatel has become, in the heart of Toulon.
Café Noisette, gourmet and sourced
Antique furniture, cozy atmosphere and a nice smell of ground coffee, from the moment you walk through the door, you feel good at Café Noisette. The establishment is run by Camille and Julien to whom we also owe the Sembilan (Malaysian restaurant) just a stone's throw away. “We wanted to diversify, confides the young woman. And there was the opportunity of this premises. It’s good, we’re bringing the place to life. It becomes a real open-air food court!” The idea here: have a brunch lunch. In short: sandwiches and pancakes to create, eggs, cakes… “We offer both sweet and savory options throughout the day.”
Another particularity: Café Noisette sources the raw materials and is supplied locally as much as possible. This is the case, for example, of Ooka coffee produced by a roaster in La Seyne or even eggs straight from Pradet. “We also do organic and gluten-free”continues Camille. At Café Noisette, we sit back and enjoy. There is even a room dedicated to little ones, a story that parents can enjoy quietly. But if you're in a hurry, it works too! Especially since in a few days, the café-restaurant will offer sandwiches (with homemade bread) to take away.
Café Noisette, 9 rue César Vezzani. Open Tuesday to Sunday from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Penida, new-look pastry
At Penida, we highlight our strengths. Here too, it is a couple who hold the helm. And Alexis trained as a pastry chef. So naturally, his creations fill the window. A delight for the eyes and taste buds. “He creates trompe-l’oeil pieces in particular which work very well with our customers”assures Lexie her sidekick. The pear, larger than life, is particularly appealing…
“Every morning, we make our pastries ourselves. The croissants can also serve as a basis for our savory recipes like the shredded beef in which we serve it.” Among other dishes to taste: the Shrimp Roll where the shrimps are to be enjoyed in a homemade brioche bread or, for those with a sweet tooth, the Lost & Found which combines lost brioche and crème brûlée.
We won't tell you any more, you have to come and taste it!
Every day of the week, Penida also offers brunch options. “We also have coffee or homemade hot chocolate and signature drinks with collagen.”
An initiative as original as it is surprising. But Lexie reassures: “it has no taste and has effects on the skin, hair, metabolism…”
