Mathis Ferté (20 years old) arouses envy. As indicated by our colleagues from Rugby Primethe versatile full-back from Brive was recently seen at the Stade Toulouse facilities. A visit made in complete transparency, since the player had informed his manager Pierre-Henry Broncan, who had also spoken with Ugo Mola on this subject. According to our information, a first meeting had even been postponed between the player and the double reigning French champion, the timing not being considered ideal in view of the sports news from CABCL.
On the Toulouse side, the offensive qualities, as well as the ability of the person concerned to play in all positions of the three-quarter line (except fly-half), particularly appeal to the staff. In particular his ability to play scrum half, like Arthur Retière who was in Toulouse between 2022 and 2024. Therefore, a question arises today: Ferté, author of a very good start to the season in Corrèze (nine appearances, eight starts and four tries) and even a double on Friday evening against Colomiers, will he be the next recruit of the red and black club? Despite this first concrete contact, things are not so simple.
No clause in his contract before 2027
Under contract with CABCL until 2028 (it was extended last June) Ferté does not have, according to our information, any clause allowing him to leave Brive before 2027 (contrary to what has been circulating in recent days). He thus made the choice to join in the construction of his training club, to which he is very attached. But his performances do not leave many Top 14 teams indifferent.
Moreover, Toulon has also inquired about his situation, without any meeting having been scheduled for the moment. Even if it will be necessary to find a financial agreement with the Brivist leaders for a release, and if Toulouse seems to have a head start, there is no doubt that Ferté could be a market attraction in the months to come. The player, who sees several of his ex-teammates with the French U20 team playing regularly in the Top 14, will he want to imitate his friend Léo Carbonneau, the Brivist scrum half who will join Racing 92 next summer ? This is a possibility but it will also be necessary to monitor the results of the CABCL. Behind the scenes, everyone agrees that the player could also spend an additional season in Corrèze before giving a new direction to his career.
