It's official: the 2024-2025 world Rugby sevens circuit is changing course. The main novelty? The Grand Final will be held in Los Angeles, at the legendary Dignity Health Sports Park, instead of Madrid, which saw the Blues lift the SVNS trophy last year.
A season that promises spectacle, with seven stages across the globe, in the euphoria of a Sevens in full swing after its success at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. We are talking here of 530,000 spectators at the Stade de France and millions ahead their screens. Despite all these good results, the world circuit will not pass through Europe this season.
RUGBY. Two months after the coronation of a lifetime, where are the Olympic rugby sevens champions?
Los Angeles in cloture
Los Angeles, land of exploits. It was here that the Blues won their first gold medal in 12 years. For the next season, LA will no longer be the penultimate stage, but the big conclusion, on May 3 and 4, 2025. The pressure will be maximum: the world champions will be crowned there. The best nations from the lower divisions will compete against the teams at the back of the pack to snatch their ticket for the following season. Suffice to say that we risk seeing a spectacle.
A world tour in seven stages
Before landing in California, the teams will pass through the major rugby sevens strongholds. Here is the program:
- Dubai opens the ball on November 30 and December 1, 2024, faithful to its status as the first stop.
- Cape Town, from December 7 to 8, will thrill the South African public, already on fire after the medal of their Blitzboks.
- Return to Australia with Perth (January 24 to 26, 2025), where the 2024 tournament was full.
- Vancouver, still under the roof of BC Place, continues from February 21 to 23, 2025.
- Make way for historic Hong Kong, which will be held for the first time in the brand new Kai Tak stadium, from March 28 to 30.
- Finally, we head to Singapore on April 5 and 6 to crown the regular season champions.
Singapore: XXL challenge
With the final stages approaching, the Singapore tournament will have a special flavor: it is there that the winners of the regular season will be crowned. But this will only be a preamble. The top eight men's and women's teams at this stage will punch their ticket to the World Championship in Los Angeles.
Rugby sevens has never been so hyped. After the monstrous enthusiasm for the Paris Olympics, expectations are enormous. The calendar is designed to ride this wave, even if it takes place outside the Old Continent.
