Pro D2 – One of the Valence Romans – Agen referees targeted by a “supporter”

One of the referees of the VRDR- meeting was targeted by an individual this Friday, September 27, on the sidelines of the Pro D2 meeting. He was arrested. The club filed a complaint.

While on a sporting level, Romans Drôme Rugby (VRDR) returned to victory this Friday, September 27 against SU Agen on their lawn at the Georges-Pompidou stadium, putting an end to a series of frustrating defeats, the evening was unfortunately marred by bad gestures in the stands. The refereeing trio of the match, composed of David Beun (central referee), Denis Daste and Pierre-Olivier Julien (touch judges), drew the wrath of Damiers supporters by sanctioning the VRDR on numerous occasions in the final minutes. Which in the end did not prevent the Damiers from winning (30-25).

The club filed a complaint

But after the final whistle, when returning to the locker room, in addition to the numerous whistles from the public, a person threw his cup and his tray of fries at one of the referees, while insulting him in a virulent manner. Fortunately, the referee was not hit by the projectiles. The perpetrator, aged 25, was initially intercepted by security agents present at the stadium. The latter called the Municipal Police, who came to arrest the individual and take him to the Valence police station.

The “supporter” in question came to apologize to the referee and the club. “This does not excuse the action that we condemn. We have filed a complaint, tells us Laurent Beaugiraud, co-president of the VRDR. “It’s a disrespectful gesture towards the club from the referee, stupid, which serves no purpose on the refereeing, the match and which penalizes the club and gives a bad image.” Valence Romans Drôme Rugby will go before the disciplinary committee soon and expect to be sanctioned.
