C’is an image that moved the millions of French people in front of their televisions and the thousands of spectators at the Arena Paris Sud. Monday, September 2. Aurélie Aubert won the Paralympic title in boccia, the first French medal in this discipline similar to pétanque and which has no equivalent at the Olympic Games.
The Frenchwoman has tears in her eyes, screams her joy with a big smile on her lips before being congratulated by her coach Claudine Llop who accompanies her daily. A joy that spread to Club France, this Thursday, September 5, when Aurélie Aubert was honored by the thousands of French spectators. “We had not imagined that Club France would be full for me, it’s huge!”
A story of chocolates
The story between boccia and Aurélie Aubert began when she was 13 years old. “In my old center, we had to do sports. Marie-Pierre Leblanc, performance manager for the French team, had spotted my potential but I didn’t like boccia. But she lured me with chocolates to get me to train and then after the first French championship I told myself that boccia was too good,” says the woman who suffers from cerebral palsy due to a lack of oxygen at birth.
