NOVI, Michigan, September 05, 2024–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Lineage, Inc. (NASDAQ: LINE) (the “Company”), the world’s largest climate-controlled warehouse real estate investment trust, today announced additional information about its flagship competition, the Food Chain Innovation Challenge, including judges and the grand prize.

The challenge of creating effective solutions to combat food waste comes at a critical time, as the population suffering from severe food insecurity is expected to reach nearly one million people by 2028. Lineage’s global competition invites students and start-ups to pitch their innovative technologies or data solutions aimed at combating post-harvest food waste.

The Food Chain Innovation Challenge will take place in three major locations: London on November 14, Amsterdam and San Francisco on November 19. Students, startups and other interested candidates can submit their applications online until September 30.

During each event, participants will pitch solutions to reduce food waste to a distinguished regional jury. The jury will select a regional winner, who will receive a $5,000 cash prize and be invited to participate in the grand finale on December 2. One winner will then be selected to receive the $50,000 grand prize and an invitation to participate in a six-month incubation program, led by a senior executive and tailored to their specific business objectives.

London

The London event will take place on 14 November 2024 at the Science Museum. Clare Walters, Regional Vice President of Lineage, will join a distinguished judging panel comprising Simon Millard, Director of Food at FareShare, Harriet Lamb, CEO of WRAP, and Paul Randle, from the Cambridge Institute for Sustainable Leaders at the University of Cambridge. To support budding innovators, ReLondon and FoodCycle are also partnering with the Food Chain Innovation Challenge to provide valuable insight and coaching to applicants as they refine their pitches.

San Francisco

The San Francisco event will take place on November 19, 2024, at the California Academy of Sciences. Jeff Rivera, Lineage’s Global Business Director, will join a distinguished panel of judges, including Angel Veza, Senior Director of Capital, Innovation and Engagement at ReFED; Danielle Todd, Founder and CEO of Make Food Not Waste; and Michael Wara, Director of the Climate and Energy Policy Initiative at Stanford’s Woods Institute for the Environment and Senior Director of Policy at the Sustainability Accelerator at the Stanford Doerr School of Sustainability.

Greg Lehmkuhl, CEO of Lineage, said, “Lineage is constantly looking to improve the overall management of food storage, transportation and distribution. Beyond our own operational improvements, the Food Chain Innovation Challenge is a platform that allows us to support the industry’s most promising talent and innovations. Through this collaboration, we can develop solutions that not only combat food waste, but also promote long-term sustainable practices.”

Jeff Rivera, Global Chief Operations Officer at Lineage, added, “While enough food is produced to feed the world, hundreds of millions of people face food insecurity every day. Lineage’s mission is to transform the food supply chain to eliminate waste and feed the world. The Food Chain Innovation Challenge exemplifies this mission, and we are excited to shine a spotlight on new solutions and innovations while supporting these entrepreneurs’ journeys to turn their ideas into reality.”

At these events, participants will be invited to present their existing ideas in four specific areas: food waste reduction, food preservation techniques, access to nutritious foods, and data-driven insights and analysis.
