ADDICTION – The former queen of the catwalks chained together shots of vodka once her children had gone to bed
Elle MacPherson lifts the veil on her troubled past. In her autobiography Life, Lessons, and Learning to Trust Yourself, published this week in Australia, the 60-year-old former top model reveals a long battle with alcoholism that she had always hidden. An addiction that she overcame more than 20 years ago, but the memory of which remains vivid.
Indeed, she used to drink shots of vodka until she “passed out” after her sons Flynn and Cy, now 26 and 21, went to bed. “The father of my children, Arpad Busson, lived in another country and was only home on weekends,” she told Australian radio show Carrie & Tommy. “I was alone with the kids and that’s what I did.”
Years of excess
The actress who was nicknamed “The Body” at the height of her career also revealed that she would make herself throw up three times before bed in an attempt to get the alcohol out of her system. “I thought if I threw up, I would have no alcohol in my system,” MacPherson continued. “Isn’t that crazy?”
Ultimately, the former queen of the catwalks attributes her alcoholism and obsessive behavior to an attempt to protect herself from the outside world. And it(…) - 20minutes
