Today, FC Barcelona accomplished one of its key objectives for the final days of the summer transfer window by successfully registering Dani Olmo with La Liga.

There were reports that the Catalans were aiming for the Spaniard to be registered ahead of the game against Rayo Vallecano, but this success still was a welcome surprise for most Barcelona fans.

A report from SPORT has provided the details of how the Blaugranes were able to pull off this registration. This report claims that it was Andreas Christensen’s injury that allowed Barcelona to get Olmo registered.

The Catalans sent Christensen’s medical report to authorities and claimed that the defender would need up to four months to recover from the discomfort that he is feeling in his left Achilles tendon. La Liga validated this report and allowed the Catalans to take advantage of Article 77 to use part of Christensen’s salary to register Olmo.

The Danish defender was initially upset with such a move, as his entourage was sure that he would be able to return to action well before four months. However, the club assured him that he would be able to play as soon as he recovered.

But for that to be the case, Barcelona will have to generate an amount of the FFP margin that has been used to register Olmo, and the club has assured the €40m-rated Danish defender that they will be able to do so by the time he recovers.

The Blaugranes have several negotiations open from which this sum can arrive. They are expected to reach an agreement with Nike and are also looking for a new investor for Barca Vision. Once these operations are successfully completed, Barcelona will return to the 1:1 rule, and their problems with registrations will be solved.

Barcelona have now used Article 77 to their favor three times in recent months. Firstly, they used a part of Gavi’s salary to register Vitor Roque in January and then used Araujo’s injury to get other players registered. Now, they have used Christensen’s injury to get Olmo registered. Hopefully, this will be the last time they have to use this facility and their registration problems will be solved for good soon.
