Drug trafficking. The mayor of calls for a referendum on the legalization of cannabis

An outspoken supporter of the legalization of cannabis, the mayor of Éric Piolle, asks Emmanuel Macron to organize a referendum on the issue.

“I propose that the President of the Republic take the initiative of holding a referendum on the subject. The President of the Republic said that he wanted to solicit the French, to ask them for their opinion,” he declared this Thursday morning on Franceinfo on the occasion of a special day dedicated to drug trafficking.

“We always repeat the same operations…”

“Let's move towards a referendum on decriminalization, or control of production, legalization, there will be a debate. This will allow you to pose the subject with height rather than always poisoning yourself. Drug trafficking, if you take away cannabis, 50% of the turnover disappears. No company whatsoever, no mafia company, can survive the 50% cut in its income,” indicates the elected official who points to a lack of political will. “There is not enough will to tackle the problem, there is what I call this laxity in doing things. We always repeat the same operations with the same failure.”

The elected official finally regrets a completely repressive policy. “We are putting more and more people in prison and yet the traffic is still just as high,” says the environmentalist mayor, accusing the various Interior Ministers of “thumping their chins”. “Gérald Darmanin, like Manuel Valls, like Nicolas Sarkozy, like Bruno Retailleau have made drug trafficking their business.”
