Samsung’s new smartphone risks disappointing people on one specific point

A real UFO from the S25 presentation evening, the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge presents itself as an ultra-thin smartphone, but one that risks disappointing many people.

Samsung spent most of its latest conference presenting three new smartphones from the Galaxy S25 generation. The latter, however, saw the attention quickly stolen by another surprise announcement: the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge.

The S25 Edge is a brand new smartphone currently in production at Samsung. The firm indicated that the latter was not yet available for purchase, but still wanted to unveil a short video to highlight the technological prowess of this smartphone which is based on a single concept: finesse.

There is, at present, almost no other information relating to the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge other than its design and its release window: early 2025. However, we can already observe that the S25 Edge only has two sensors for its photography which must exclude a telephoto lens as can be found on the S25 Ultra and which allows good quality optical zooms. In the absence of such a sensor, the S25 Edge would have to make do with digital zooms.

The finesse of the S25 Edge may displease

Whether it’s the new Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge or the alleged iPhone 17 Air, manufacturers seem determined to embrace a new trend: thinness. This is also felt by other manufacturers, notably the OnePlus Open or the Honor Magic V3, which are the thinnest foldable smartphones on the market.

But this finesse comes at a significant cost. Reducing the size of components without significantly affecting their performance requires much more investment, and therefore generates more costs for manufacturers. Thus, a large proportion of users are likely to think that thinner smartphones will cost less than their traditional counterparts when this is not the case.

According to the first leaks, the Samsung Galaxy S25 Edge should be priced between the S25+ and the S25 Ultra. You will therefore have to spend at least 1169 euros to have a thinner smartphone. We will obviously closely monitor the price of the S25 Edge when it is released, but we should not expect a much more efficient phone than an S25+ given the first information available.
