Council of Ministers: Discover the four main points developed

The Council of Ministers of January 15, 2025 focused on four essential points:

1 – Modernization of the transport sector and optimization of its potential in terms of job creation for young people

According to President Bassirou Diomaye Faye, it is imperative to finalize a government action plan taking into account various aspects such as legal and financial constraints. The Head of State thus insists on improving road safety, particularly for mopeds, and on the renewal of transport vehicles. Still according to President Diomaye Faye, emphasis must be placed on promoting youth employment in this sector by strengthening training and securing informal jobs. The PR also recommends the use of national systems to guarantee social and health coverage for workers.

2 – Evaluation and reframing of the XËYU NDAW ÑI program.

President Diomaye Faye also highlighted significant shortcomings in the “XËYU NDAW ÑI” program. Thus, he asked Prime Minister Ousmane Sonko and the ministers concerned to carry out an in-depth evaluation of this program before the end of March 2025. This will aim to transform the program into a new, more effective “Youth Employment” concept. and inclusive.

The objective is to quickly reframe sectoral components and objectives to maximize job creation, promote entrepreneurship and optimize financing and income-generating activities.

3 – Maritime and port development as part of the national transformation agenda

In the third chapter of his communication, Bassirou Diomaye Faye discussed the development of maritime and port infrastructure to support industrialization and job creation. Thus, by March 2025, he asks to finalize a new maritime policy. According to him, necessary reforms will have to be made to improve port governance and also strengthen the national maritime affairs agency. The Head of State also affirms the crucial nature of modernizing fishing ports, as well as the need to strengthen national sovereignty over the Dakar shipyards.

Finally, in this sector, he announced the creation of a National Council for Maritime and Port Activities. This with the aim of coordinating the implementation of the national maritime policy.

4 – Strengthening relations between the State and religions.

To end his communication on the four essential points of this Council of Ministers, Bassirou Diomaye Faye spoke of the relations between the State and the different religious centers. Its objective is to strengthen the relationship with all religious denominations in order to better meet the needs of the populations. He also reaffirmed his desire to create a general delegation for religious affairs to institutionalize these relations. He also asked the Prime Minister to accelerate the modernization of religious cities and the development of religious tourism. Emphasis was also placed on a good organization of future religious pilgrimages, in particular the Magal of Kazu Rajab or the call of Seydina Limamoulaye. The President of the Republic also invited the Minister of African Integration and Foreign Affairs to take all measures, under the supervision of the Prime Minister, for a good organization of the next pilgrimages to the holy places of Islam and to the places saints of Christianity
