Maverick influenced the film

The director revealed that the sequel starring Tom Cruise was a huge influence on his version of the Man of Steel

James Gunn offered a preview of what fans can expect from his next Superman.

The director and co-head of DC Studios spoke to press on the set of the highly anticipated superhero film earlier this year (via Gizmodo), where he teased the film’s start and revealed how Top Gun: Maverick influenced him.

While yesterday a very first preview was released, The Superman trailer will arrive online this afternoonwhich is said to last approximately 2 minutes and 20 seconds. In the interview, Gunn admitted that shooting the scenes in the sky “it’s really difficult“, but they had another iconic action movie starring Tom Cruise to draw inspiration from.

We took a lot from films like Top Gun: Maverick“he explained.”We shot most of the action with actual drones flying in and around Superman and to the people he flies with, to the Engineer and anyone else who is fighting in the air. And we did it on sound stages. Now we have these really small, crazy drones. We have some of the best drivers in the world working there“.

The director of Guardians of the Galaxy also teased the opening scene of Superman, which will explore the superhero’s journey to reconciling his alien heritage with his human family.

Let’s start from the center of the action“he explained.”Superman already exists. Lois and Clark already know each other. Lex hates Superman from the beginning, even though they don’t know each other personally. So let’s start right in the middle of the action“. Gunn added that after involving Superman in all the action, the film’s main story will take place in “a short period of time“.
